Sanja Jovanovic (Anyone's Guess)on state of the Orlando scene

Orlando is supposed to be one of the cities with a great music scene, and we have tons of rock bands to prove it. But there can only be so many "greatest shows of the month" in one week and we all know who's to blame. I always thought there should be an exam one should pass before they can start a band. If you know what all it takes to be successful in the music business, then by all means you're ready to be in a band.

Now, I'm not judging anyone's talent or skills in plating music, I am talking about attitudes. It seems like Orlando is oversaturated with unprofessional bands who think that playing 17 (highly inebriated) shows a month around Orlando will get them scouted and signed. 17 shows in one month is a great number if you're touring the states. Otherwise, you're just wasting your time, venue's potential income and giving the rest of the rock scene a bad reputation by over-exposing yourself.

Same goes for booking agents and companies: why would you book the same band, at the same place more than once a month?! You have to remember: when you invite someone to see you live, you're competing with the dance clubs, strip clubs and wet T-shirt parties. Why would people skip those if they can come see you again tomorrow?

But let's not pull the plug on Orlando's music scene yet. There is a handful of bands that are mind-blowing in both business and music aspects, and they are well on their way to the top. So I say, if we all just chill out for a bit and give the audience something to crave, the Orlando will go back to delivering the big names in music.
